JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE Front office position responsible for processing requests for release of information, chart maintenance and customer service.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Processes verbal and written requests for copies of medical records from insurance companies, disability claims, Patient Financial Services, individuals and other authorized parties following Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures regarding privacy and confidentiality.
Utilizes hospital information system Release of Information module to document processed authorizations and other information requests.
Prepares invoices for payment of copies.
Assembles charts for coding.
Scans charts for remote coding.
Flags documents for physician completions and updates deficiency log.
Scans Emergency Department, ASU and other misc.
outpatient records into EFM.
Assures completeness of record including final signatures prior to scanning.
Performs filing, chart maintenance and other departmental functions as required.
Utilizes hospital information system Health information module to access MPI, patient accounts, chart locator, transcription documents, discharge analysis, Point of Care, Chart Link.
Utilizes transcription document management system.
Assists customers who present to department for medical record requests.
Assist in pulling records for medical record review and/or audits.
Utilizes DAVE system for Electronic Birth Certificate and Affirmation of Paternity.
Reliable attendance and punctuality, including observing appropriate break times and extending a scheduled shift when necessary to meet patient demands Performs duties in a safe manner, in compliance with all safety policies and procedures Complies with the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures Other duties, as assigned, that are relevant to the position and department Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma.
Experience:
Previous hospital experience desirable with computer literacy.
Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
Experience with general office equipment:
photocopier, fax machine, etc.
Other:
Detail oriented.
Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.
Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance HIPAA, Maine State law and DECH policies.
Ability to communicate and cooperate with physicians, co-workers, hospital employees and the public.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT Moderate:
Occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds independently.
Occasionally pushes/pulls 100 pounds.
Stands or walks often.
Position requires sitting and use of key board.
Visually able to read documents and computer screen.
Ability to stand, bend and file at floor level and above shoulders.
Ability to push/pull chart transportation carts.

Participates in the departmental and hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities as directed by the manager.
COMPLIANCE Adheres to the federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
Adheres to the Compliance Program policies and procedures of Down East Community.
Adheres to all Privacy and Security policies and procedures of Down East Community Communicates any concern related to compliance issues to Department Director or Compliance Officer.
Communicates any concern related to confidentiality issues to the Privacy Officer.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
